Dr Sanjay Victor Jain is a British Consultant Psychiatrist whose career spans more than twenty years across the UK, Ireland, and Canada. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and the European Board of Psychiatry, he is recognised not only for his clinical expertise but for the compassion and humanity he brings to every patient interaction.
From early in his career, Dr Jain has believed that psychiatry is more than diagnosis - it is the art of listening, understanding suffering, and restoring dignity. This belief has shaped his work across general adult and old-age psychiatry, acute inpatient care, liaison psychiatry, and community mental-health services. His leadership roles as Clinical Director and Acting Medical Director reflect a commitment to building safer, kinder, and more responsive systems of care.
Dr Jain’s journey has been marked by resilience, service and an unwavering belief in the human capacity to heal. His work with the General Medical Council on fitness-to-practise committees reinforced his dedication to professional integrity and the values that underpin good medical practice. A teacher at heart, he has guided trainees, appraised colleagues and championed excellence across teams and organisations.
His publications on depression, dementia, and mental-health reform, along with his book A Psychiatrist Discovers the Life-Changing Power of God, speak to his lifelong exploration of the intersection between medicine, humanity, and hope. Fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi, Dr Jain brings cultural understanding and warmth into his clinical work.
Above all, he is driven by a simple, inspiring principle: that every person, no matter their story, deserves to be heard, understood, and supported toward a life of meaning and stability. This belief continues to guide Dr Jain’s practice and his ongoing commitment to improving mental-health care wherever he serves.
