Dr Bushra Azam

Dr Bushra Azam is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a Dual Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry, and over a decade of senior clinical experience. She is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Azam specialises in the assessment and treatment of complex mental health conditions in adults and older adults, particularly where psychiatric symptoms intersect with physical illness, cognitive impairment or neurological conditions. Her clinical expertise includes adult ADHD, depression, psychosis, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, dementia and memory disorders, as well as functional psychiatric illnesses in later life.

She provides specialist assessments for adult ADHD, dementia diagnosis, complex mental capacity assessments and medico-legal work, producing clear, structured and well-evidenced reports. Her approach is thorough and clinically robust, while remaining compassionate and tailored to each individual’s circumstances.

Dr Azam completed her psychiatric training in the Yorkshire Deanery and previously held an Academic Teaching Post with the University of Leeds. She is a General Medical Council examiner for PLAB 2 and also works as a health assessor and medical supervisor for the General Medical Council. In addition, she has held a number of senior NHS leadership roles, including Clinical Director of Acute Assessment Services and Local Negotiating Committee Chair, and continues to contribute to service development, education and quality improvement.

She has published in peer-reviewed journals and professional publications on topics including antipsychotic prescribing, mental capacity assessments and memory clinic services, and has worked with the Royal College of Psychiatrists on the development of sustainability accreditation across psychiatric subspecialties.

Dr Azam works collaboratively with patients, families and other professionals, aiming to deliver clear diagnoses and practical, evidence-based treatment plans that support both clinical outcomes and quality of life.
